The Downside of Taking Too Much of Nutritional Supplement

Anything that is too much is bad, and believe it or not this works in vitamins and minerals too. Our body may be very demanding when it comes to fueling it up with the right nutrients so it can function well and avoid various health complications like diseases. But did you know that you can also get sick by having too much of nutrients in your body? Vitamins and minerals can also hurt the body in so many ways.

Too much level of vitamins and minerals can cause hypervitaminosis, a condition which results to so many kinds of uncomfortable side effects. A regular healthy diet only consists of essential nutrients you only need. Nutritional supplements can help, but should always be observed.

Antioxidants such as beta-carotene absorb free radicals that target molecules in the cell membranes of our brain. Aside from reducing the risk of cancer, cataract and heart attack it can also help reduce the risk of stroke. However, if in too much level in the body, beta-carotene can turn toxic and harm the body. These side-effects can be irreversible, especially among cigarette smokers.

Vitamin A on the other hand, if in a very high level, can cause fatigue, irritability, sensitivity to sun’s rays, loss of appetite, and vomiting. Other side effects can come really handy such as dry lips, hair loss. Pregnant women with too much level of vitamin A may cause their child some birth defects such as excess calcium in blood, which can result into so many types of health complications like increase of pressure in the brain which causes visual disturbances for the child.

Excess vitamin E on the other hand, can cause intestinal pain, diarrhea, lack of energy, and muscle weakness.

Excess level of fat-soluble vitamins, for example, vitamin E and A can be stored in your body. Thus, be careful in taking too much of it as it can just accumulate inside the body. Vitamins that are water-soluble vitamins, for example, vitamins C and B are usually excreted through urine, this is the reason why this type of vitamin, when in excess, is not usually a big problem.

When you take nutritional supplements for weight loss, make sure you consult your doctor. Bad intake of weight loss supplements can cause severe damage to hear valves, which may result to heart complications.

While everything we need to know is in the internet today, be very skeptical in what you read. Entrepreneurs will always package their product to make it appealing and meet what you want to know, so always be careful. Also, unless there’s been a proven deficiency of nutrients, do not take nutritional supplements.
